1.4 How do I use the CHIA website?

There are two ways to use the CHIA:

1)      Website resources: you can use the resources like a typical website without registering for an account

AND/OR

2)      Project account and collaboration space: you can register and create a project account as well as using the website resources.

WEBSITE RESOURCES: What does the CHIA website include?

The website has a homepage and four 'sections:

How to use the CHIA

This section provides an overview of the CHIA and how to use it, including: an overview of the CHIA process; a summary of how the CHIA will benefit projects; how the CHIA supports business case development; how to use the resources; frequently asked questions, and a glossary.

Step by step guide to the CHIA process

This section provides information and guidance for each step of the CHIA process. It provides a practical guide for how to prepare and run a screening workshop as well as how to scope and commission the evidence appraisal and development of recommendations, where these steps are required. This section also covers what is needed after a HIA report is completed.

Learn about impacts on health, equity and communities

This section provides a set of background learning resources in two sections:

-          Making the case for health and equity

-          Community Engagement* (developed by the Scottish Community Development Centre)

* This section focuses on undertaking community engagement more widely as part of the project's consultation process. It does not focus on the involvement of community members in the CHIA process, which is outlined in '2.3 Who should be at a screening workshop?'. Involvement of community members in a CHIA screening workshop is not a replacement for any wider consultation or engagement processes, but it could be one part of the wider engagement plan.

Training on the CHIA

This section provides details on how to access training on the CHIA process.

What does the PROJECT ACCOUNT AND COLLABORATION SPACE include?

The project account and collaboration space can be used to:

  • Store project information and details related to the workshop
  • Add relevant information to the checklist during or after the workshop
  • Write up the workshop report using a template.
  • The project 'owner', usually the project manager, can add collaborators so that the project team can add information as required.
  • Members of the project team can then access or download the project information to populate reports or impact assessments, as well as using this information to write business cases.
