2.5 Where should the screening workshop take place?

The workshop can take place online or in person depending on the availability of participants and access needs which will vary from project to project. In both scenarios, everyone present should be given a chance to share their views, unless they choose not to, or to remain anonymous within a group.  A hybrid workshop is not recommended, in this format it is difficult to include all participants equally and facilitate discussions.

It may also be more appropriate to hold separate workshops for different groups. For example, it may be easier to allow groups with different viewpoints to discuss the project openly or, as mentioned above, it may be useful to hold a separate workshop with community members.

In-person workshops

If the workshop is in-person, it should:

  • Be in a location that all participants can access and does not exclude anyone based on cost of travel or physical accessibility.
  • Be at a time that does not exclude community members - a range of options should be proposed with enough notice to arrange transport and care of dependents etc.

Online workshops

If the workshop is online, it should:

  • Be at a time that does not exclude community participants - a range of options should be proposed with enough notice to make arrangements needed to attend.
  • Ensure all participants have access to a device and adequate broadband.
  • The session may be recorded if all participants consent to this. However, considerations should be given to the benefits of recording vs. the possibility that some or all participants may be less willing to share their views.
