2.9 What happens after a screening workshop?

Capture potential impacts from the screening workshop

  • After the workshop, a report should be prepared by the facilitator and/or scribe which represents all views shared at the workshop using the 'Workshop Report Template (Word doc, 33 KB)(opens new window)'.
  • The report should include summary of key points; suggestions made during the discussion to enhance positive impacts; areas for further investigation; possible research questions to understand potential positive/negative/uncertain impacts; and a detailed workshop discussion.
  • Workshop Report Template (Word doc, 33 KB)(opens new window) should be adapted to suit the needs of the proposal, not all sections may be relevant and/or new sections may need to be added.
  • The draft report should be shared with the workshop attendees.
  • Before finalising the report, the project team should meet, ideally including the public health colleague(s) involved in the workshop, to discuss findings and next steps.
  • The meeting should discuss whether any further evidence or a full HIA are needed and if so, how this can be taken forward or commissioned.
  • In this meeting, include those with experience of other impact assessments - as this will help establish is issues identified will be picked up by other impact assessments.
  • The project team can complete 'CHIA Screening Workshop Follow Up Meeting Template (Word doc, 26 KB)(opens new window)'and use this to inform Step 2: Scoping.

Make use of the screening workshop report

  • The workshop report can be used in Step 2: Scoping to develop the scoping document and set the terms of reference for the health impact assessment.
  • The workshop report can be used to inform other impact assessment processes following your local authority guidance.
  • Note: the CHIA screening workshop does not replace existing other local authority impact assessment processes unless a HIA process is already in place. In this case, the senior responsible officer (SRO) should contact GCR to discuss the best way forward.
  • The workshop report findings can also be used to inform relevant sections of business cases and project funding applications (e.g. strategic need, risks and benefits) see Section 1.3 for more details.
  • The workshop report can also be revisited throughout the lifetime of the project as it progresses from master-planning to design, construction and operations.
  • A CHIA screening workshop can be held more than once during the project lifecycle, as needed.
